Radka Beach
Rainbow of Joy ∼ Journalist, Eternal student, Lover, Poet, Traveller…
I am from everywhere and nowhere, a joyful vagabond and global citizen. I’m a magazine, a bottomless rainbow in a book of life lived thoroughly. I became a fashion model only to travel to Asia before it got to resemble too much the West. In my 20s I independently adventured into places that have changed profoundly over the past two decades – Chile, China, Cuba, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, Thailand, well over 60 countries. Later while graduating in journalism with psychology in London, I connected the spheres of theory and reality.
My Slavic name, Radka, means joy. An ancient concoction of words when split, mean the “spirit of joy”. Naturally then, my mind has always been centred by happiness. Yours can be too, we all have a choice — I believe that the only tangible liberty of humanity is having the choice of attitude to how we feel and be a certain way.
Curious as a squirrel in an urban park, a bird in free flight, I studied documentary filmmaking, pharmacology, Jungian psychology, mythology, religious scriptures beyond the canonical (Harvard Divinity School), Culinary Nutrition (certified by NGI in New York), sniffed and sipped myself through the Advanced Certificate in Wine by WSET. While managing my former wine blog Winebeing, I contributed to the established lifestyle publications in Singapore (Wine & Dine) and London (Decanter, Huffington Post).
I confess, like St. Augustine, I sin. Ever since I stepped on the Italian soil at the age of 16, hedonism plagued my mind, tongue and receptors of pleasure. Freud was unto something in our desirous psyche. I feel the decadence of life through all of my hungry senses. Life can be sweet, but also bitter, too salty or umami if you know how this exotic flavour tastes.
Melting faraway soil on my tongue — oh, chocolate, you were created by the Aztec Gods! Sipping verity in tea to calm my heart I bow daily to the eastern liquid gold. A spoonful of Brittany butter or a mouthful of aged Comtè transport me to the lush meadows where French cows joyfully graze. In summer, my nose and palate often venture to Provence — fresh goat’s cheese with ripe figs and a twist of fougasse washed down with a fragrant rosé. La vie est belle!
Music and smile transform every day into a feast, whether it is me joining in a flamenco swirl at a Seville bar, the seduction of tango in Argentina or high heeled dance class in Zurich. A barefoot stroll in nature connects with my roots, while gazing up to the sky opens my mind to ceaseless wonder.
I was blessed to be able to seek the best quality in daily life. The explorer also lives in my gut, the instinctual spirit of discovery. I travel to tease my nose at vibrant farmers markets, hiking in the wild and to taste the seasonal local bounty wherever destiny and will take me. Licking my fingers — shamelessly, juicy wild berries. I smile, my tinted lips wide apart. More bread, please, merci, grazie, muchas grazias, arigato, danke schön! Frozen pleasures lure me in the summer heat as my child-self raptures in bliss. We seek the opposites for balance. I share an infant’s innocence, always happy on the beach. I even weaved it into my adult name.
Je t’aime, la vie! Wild at heart, free.
A bon vivant, that woman seduced by la dolce vita, not a hermit hiding from discovery and experience, I roam the world for the next bite, peak, sip or kiss along the ever changing road — thus I never age in my soul. Numbers are for accountants, life is better through music, smile and verbs.
I enjoy creative cooking projects, the playful spirit of dogs, the mystery and independence in cats’ eyes, foraging, eating more sustainably, philosophy, reading anything genuine, wise or beautiful. I plunge and soar through immersive traveling, cycling, hiking, horse riding, free dancing (choreography turns me off, so groove!), mindful tea time, sharing wine, deep conversations and food with friends. I ground through art, meditation, simple breath, ikebana flower harmony, nature, poetry, qi-gong, classical pilates and yoga. An urban flâneur and an open-hearted naturalist, while circling the Earth my wings embrace the vast beauty of every single day.
I found my joyful ethos in life. I hope that La Muse Blue will guide you to discover the potential of yours.
How can I drop that self-expressive I? “I” am not “a” robot, so here I share my authentic soul, no commercial interests or ego.
